Journalism 2020-21
As the Features Editor and a graphic designer this past school year, I have had the honor of working both within the Features team with two other hardworking individuals and with the Winged Post and Aquila staff at large. Thank you for taking the time to review my portfolio.
Leadership & Teamwork
This past year was my first year leading a team of my own and mentoring a younger editor. While I initially felt unsure of my teaching capabilities, I soon came to realize that empathy was the most powerful and important in helping others succeed. Check out my cover letter for more.
Accomplishments & Progress
This past year has also been a year of discovering what it takes to manage the Features section and also discovering the different types of journalism work I love most. Below is a curation of the articles, page designs and illustrations that I have improved the most through and that hold a special place in my heart. Check out my Aquila profile for more.
Writing
This year, one of my goals as both the Features editor and a writer was to cover a diverse array of topics especially because of the pandemic that already detrimentally affected community morale and mental health. From serious stories of how the pandemic has affected members of our community to a visual-focused piece on students’ workspaces, I hope that the diversity of stories has attracted more of our audience to our site and allowed them to appreciate the work we do.
Design
As the Features editor of the Winged Post, I was responsible not only for designing 1-2 pages per issue myself, but for assisting and giving feedback on the other pages in my section. Here is a collection of some of my works from this past year.
